| PRO SCORECARD GOLF FORUM | | | | | | Posted on Thursday, August 25, 2005 (11:36) | | | I had an 'interesting' situation recently. As I hit my shot, the shaft of my club broke in the hosel and the head went flying 50 yards down the fairway. The ball went who-knows-where. My question is: what is the rule? Do I get a 'mulligan'? Is it still considered a shot? And since I lost the ball, to add insult, I have a 2 stroke penalty and must replay my shot without the club?
Thanks, Rik

I'll take a stab at it (although I'm no rules expert)...
Mulligans are against the rules at all times! Any foreward movement of your club with the intention of striking the ball is considered a stroke, whether your club breaks or not.
A lost ball is a lost ball, whether it was lost in the fairway (it sometimes happens, especially in the fall with dead leaves everywhere), rough or woods. Play your next shot from the original location.
